Adding Bounces
Choose your parameters, pick a mode and add: Mix, Solo and Mute for one bounce, Batch for one per track, Clips for one per clip.
In short
Choose your parameters
Set how the bounce is made with the chips under the list: file type, bit depth, sample rate, range, folder and mix source.
Choose a mode
Mix for the whole mix, Solo for the selected tracks together, Mute for the mix without them, Batch for one bounce per track, Clips for one per clip. Select the tracks in Pro Tools first when the mode needs them.
Add
Check the name, parameters and tracks in the sheet, then add. Your bounces land in the list, checked and Queued.
Adding bounces takes three steps: choose your parameters in Setup, choose a mode, then check the sheet and add. The mode buttons under the bounce list turn your current Pro Tools selection into bounces, and each one opens a sheet with the name, the tracks it picked up and its Setup; Add 1 Bounce (or Add 8 Bounces) puts them in the list, checked and Queued. How each bounce is made (folder, format, range, mix source) is Setup's job: see Changing Parameters.
Mix, Solo and Mute
One rule explains the mode row: every bounce in the list is a Mix, a Solo or a Mute. Batch and Clips aren't types. They are fast ways to add many bounces at once: Batch adds Solo bounces, Clips adds Solo or Mix bounces.
| Type | What you get | Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Mix | The whole mix, exactly as the session plays. | ⌃⌘X |
| Solo | One file with the selected tracks soloed together. Stems, an a cappella, a vocal group. | ⌃⌘S |
| Mute | The whole mix with the selected tracks muted. Instrumental, TV mix, no-lead-vocal. | ⌃⌘M |
Select the tracks in Pro Tools, then press the mode button or its shortcut. The shortcuts are global, so they work with Pro Tools in front, and can be changed in Settings › Shortcuts. If the sheet says "Nothing is selected in Pro Tools", select the tracks and open it again.
The bounce stores its tracks by name. When the queue runs, Fast Bounce solos or mutes exactly those tracks and puts them back afterwards. To change a bounce's tracks later, edit it (see Editing Bounces).
Batch: one Solo bounce per track
Batch (⌃⌘B) adds a Solo bounce for each track, each soloed on its own. Pick the tracks, or let a rule pick them:
| Rule | Tracks it takes |
|---|---|
| Specific tracks | The Pro Tools selection. |
| All audio tracks | Every audio track in the session. |
| All folder tracks | Every folder track. |
| All VCA tracks | Every VCA track. |
| All audio tracks inside the selected folders | Audio tracks inside the folders selected in Pro Tools. |
| All folder tracks inside the selected folders | Folder tracks inside the folders selected in Pro Tools. |
The two "inside" rules can include subfolders. Inactive tracks are always left out.
Names are built with the Before and After fields around each track's name: Song A - + track name gives Song A - Lead Vocal.wav, Song A - Keys.wav… Then Add 8 Bounces.
Rules in presets
Save a Batch bounce with a rule as a preset and it never has a missing track: on every session it takes whatever tracks match the rule. See Presets.
Clips: one bounce per clip
Clips (⌃⌘C) is for sessions that hold several songs or cues on the timeline: a mastering session, an album, a reel. Fast Bounce finds the clips on the selected audio tracks and adds one bounce per clip, each with the clip's own range on the timeline, accurate to the sample. Muted clips and inactive tracks are skipped.
Choose what each clip becomes:
- Solo bounces just that track over the clip's range.
- Mix bounces the whole mix over the clip's range.
Solo is the default, and the sheet remembers what you picked last time. Clip bounces ignore the range chip: each one uses its clip's own position.
Clip names come from the clips themselves, with the session name or anything else you add around them.
Names
Every sheet proposes a name from the naming rule for that mode, set in Settings › Naming Rules: a Mix is named after the session, a Batch bounce after the session and the track. Change it in the sheet before adding, or later in Edit. Names that contain characters a file name can't hold are flagged before the bounces are added. See Naming Rules.
